These enigmatic cubes are recreations of the original Kybahl Device.
It is unknown how they were replicated. As after the First Galactic War no additional copies were able to be made.
There are potentially thousands of them in long abandoned Transit rings across former human space.
Note: In the modern era, they are usually known as Ahkaydies. Which is unknowingly an onomatopoeia of AKDs or “artificial kybahl devices” in an ancient language.
