This is the information network originally set up in the 3rd century PC, as humanity ventured back out into the stars.
Planet-side, this network is a combination of hard wired and wireless communication infrastructure. Off-world, this extends to the HubComm, which allows for periodic or near real-time communications between planets.
Neural Interconnects may be used for higher transmission throughput.
The CoreNet doesn’t have a specific visual translation layer, but does combine with AR to create augmented environments and telepresence.
“Hacking” is simply using premade and Macro-Program Scripts programs on the fly to “attack” a server’s defenses and extract data. Having a NeuralCon connection to a terminal does allow for much faster macro-coding and deployment of said software. Unlike other cyberpunk adjacent settings, damage to hardware and cybernetics is rare, and usually caused by large scale infrastructure manipulation, not direct individual attacks. Sending a power surge to an individual terminal or into someone using a NeuralCon is not feasible. You could in theory cause a power plant to push out more energy than a power grid is using, causing breakers to trip or in a worst case scenario, damage electronics and infrastructure on the entire grid.
