Despite its harsh climate, large swaths of the planet were well suited for agriculture. The population retained many Aloract machines, which were used for mining and construction.
They were able to advance back into a low-orbit spacefaring society. However, they were unable to reactivate their Artikybahl Devices, limiting their space flight to their own system.
When teams from Ares arrived in 223 PC, they were seen as hostile and rapidly overwhelmed. A second force was sent in 227 PC, backed with ground troops and warships.
The war for control of the planet finally ended in 235 PC. It was decided to use orbital bombardment, to which the Valguesi had no defense. They finally surrendered and agreed to work with the rest of humanity.
